We recently finished our third annual Winter Camp and it was absolutely AWESOME!!! The amount of art that was created and fun that was had in just four days was absolutely incredible! It rained, it poured. But we danced in the rain, trudged through the puddles and enjoyed cozy, indoor campfires. Debbie Donuts came to host the HoHoHo Hoedown and the New Years Eve EVE Ball was a great success (With amazing food to boot!)
One of MY favorite memories from Winter Camp occurred during lunch on the second full day of camp. All of a sudden the song “I know a song that gets on everybody’s nerves” started playing in the dining hall….on repeat. Sushi immediately stood up from the table looking extremely confused, and walked over to the uCamps sound system thinking she could just turn the song off. This was not the case, however. All of the staff sitting at our table began looking around trying to figure out what was going on. Then we saw “The Dude”, the Facility Director of Camp Sempervirens in a fit of giggles at the head of the table. We had our culprit! The Dude had put the song on through his speakers so we had no control over how long the song persisted. The campers, of course, were getting extremely frustrated by the song. At first they resisted it, and then eventually the entire camp joined in singing the song a few times through. The song continued for a good ten minutes, accompanied by the camp singing the ABC’s to try and drown it out before The Dude finally shut it off causing the room to fill with applause, as well as cheers such as “Silence? I LOVEEEEEEEE SILENCE!!!” Just because I was having such a good time, I leaned over to Wikipedia, our host for the week, and told him to turn it back on. He waited a few minutes and then turned it back on to the dismay of all the campers. Wikipedia, the Dude and I, however, were in the corner laughing. :) This incident became a huge running joke for the camp, and resulted in many cabins and lunch tables bursting out into song, as well as the staff performing a VERY annoying song at campfire.
