SoCal 2014!!!

Hello, all!

SoCal Camp has been absolutely amazing so far!

The first day was one of the most incredible first days of camp we have had in uCamps history. Between the excitement of the campers and the high energy of our fabulous uStaff, there were smiles all around. After meeting their counselors and fellow cabin mates, the campers set up home and took a facility tour wherein at the end we all learned the camp song. After a first dinner full of laughs and cheers, the annual counselor makeover took place. Needless to say there were more wigs and poorly applied lipstick than you could shake a stick at. Afterwards, the campers made their way down to "Campwater" (given the recent drought and dryness of the surrounding area, campfires have been banned. Our quick-witted and optimistic campers decided to take opposite of fire, and have our own fun with it!). After a slough of staff performances as well as a performance by this years' SoCal LIT class, it was off to bed with the buzz of the first day of workshops ringing in our dreams.

Cabin cheers!
Day two began with a great series of stretches and cheers to lead us into a Daft Punk accompanied breakfast. The theme of day two was "Future Day," so what better way to set the tone than with a series of electronic melodies as you chow down on your eggs and bacon? After breakfast, we headed out to the courtyard for inspiration and set the tone for a great day of creativity, music, and fun! Campers enjoyed workshops including dance, choir, film making and a creek hike (we would like to thank Mother Nature for the flash floods that occurred prior to our arrival for providing an actual creek to hike). Lunch time was great as campers sat with friends new and old to discuss their first series of workshops and what they were hoping to do with the rest of the day. After dinner, we made our way to Campwater followed by Casino Night as well as the uCamps Carnival!

Our beautiful "Campwater" at sunset!
The remainder of this week has been chock full of good times. Just a couple nights ago we held our famous uCamps Ho-Down! Queue the plaid, drawn on freckles, and cowboy boots. Last night, we spent time stargazing after performances at Campwater. The night was perfectly clear - we could see the Milky Way, and even caught glimpses of two shooting stars! Following this, in honor of the late Robin Williams, we watched Aladdin. Everyone had a blast singing along to "Friend Like Me" and "A Whole New World." Tonight we will be hosting our annual Blacklight Lounge and preparing for the wonderful performances tomorrow will bring!

We can't wait to share all of the campers' art with you on Saturday!

Always,
uCamps
