Shooting Stars, Glow Sticks, and S’mores...Oh My!

Wow! SoCal has been nothing but phenomenal so far! Our days have been packed with non-stop fun, laughter and joy. We started off this week on a rather bright note—we went stargazing! The past couple years, a meteor shower has always coincided with our SoCal camp; after campfire and a beautiful sunset, we set up a huge tarp on the grass and made memories and new friends while counting the billions of stars that light up the endless sky . Some campers even saw their first shooting star! It was great.

The next day was our first theme day: Hippies vs. Hipster Day! Our groovy and cool campers started their first full day of workshops and the sounds of choir, poetry, and multiple dance classes rang throughout the camp as the film workshops brainstormed and arts and crafts constructed awesome dreamcatchers. That night, we had our first ever SoCal glow in the dark pool party! The music was blasting and the campers were loving it.

Yesterday was our traditional uCamps Ho Down, and it was great!! All the girls and even some boys broke out the eyeliner and drew freckles all over their face. There was an ocean of cowboy hats as far as the eye could see during the dance and it was lit up with a golden glow provided by the strings of twinkling Christmas lights strung throughout the dancing area. After the Ho Down, campers lined up for s’mores and everyone enjoyed some time to just relax before heading off to bed.

Tonight we are revamping our Casino Night and adding Karaoke into the mix! We cannot wait to hear what kind of songs these campers belt out! Tomorrow is the infamous Blacklight Lounge. It is also Neon Day so everyone will be glowing brightly as they dance the night away!

As this post is being written you can hear the rock bands jamming and the hip hop class stomping. The sounds are melding together as if to let the whole camp know how far they have come in just a few days.

There is even more fun to be had…STAY TUNED! =)
